We can help! Powering Paradise is a Safe Energy Project initiative of the World Business Academy that we launched almost two years ago. Powering Paradise is about educating, assisting and referring people to resources so they can go solar, get battery back-ups for their home, acquire a generator, or learn about the many ways to implement energy upgrades.
“A lot of our program focuses on educating people about solar energy and emergency power backup systems,” said Cynthia Wallace, the Powering Paradise project director. “We help people understand the technology that is available and how it can benefit them. It’s also a referral program and we assist people through the entire design and installation process.”
When people register for Powering Paradise, Wallace interviews them to learn their renewable energy goals and explains their options. She also refers people to solar electrical contractors who will provide a free consultation and prepare a free quote. The World Business Academy stays involved in the projects to help keep them on track and make sure people are getting high-quality service.

“There is never going to be a better time than now to go solar between the federal tax credits and the utility rate plans. Powering Paradise is an easy way to help you find a renewable energy solution,” said World Business Academy Founder and President Rinaldo S. Brutoco, who installed solar panels, a battery backup and a generator at his Santa Barbara home last year. Here are Brutoco’s top three reasons for going solar now:

2. Get renewable energy tax credits. Solar installations are currently eligible for federal tax credits in the amount of 30 percent of the total solar system cost. This represents thousands of dollars in direct savings. Unlike tax deductions, this credit offsets your tax liability dollar for dollar. And, if your tax credit exceeds your tax liability, the excess credit can be carried forward for up to 20 years.

The risk to our energy in Santa Barbara County is another critical reason people should consider solar and emergency backup systems. South Santa Barbara County is connected to a compromised energy delivery system, leaving people vulnerable to extended, catastrophic energy shortages. The vast majority of our power travels 50 miles from the Santa Clara substation, across rugged terrain and remote mountains, and is carried by a single pair of high voltage transmission lines. The towers carrying these transmission lines are antiquated and at high risk of destruction from wildfires, storms, mudslides and earthquakes. If even a single tower were to collapse, Santa Barbara residents could be plunged into darkness for a very long time.
Southern California Edison identified this disastrous vulnerability in its power transmission system in 2014. According to a report submitted to the Public Utilities Commission, if a transmission tower goes down, all 82,700 metered customers in South Santa Barbara County will lose power until emergency power can be delivered to the area. A repair or replacement could take weeks.
