Only a few weeks ago we were all in our offices hard at work, among other things promoting a clean energy future and stakeholder capitalism, and excited about our new relationship with the Montecito Journal. That shifted mid-March when it became clear that this novel Coronavirus had become a public health emergency here in California and around the world.
Despite the entire team moving to a remote work set-up a few weeks ago, we have been busier than ever. One major development that I wanted to share with our community is a new concept that we have been developing over the past two weeks, and which is in process of being disseminated to the Governors of California, Colorado and New Mexico.
It is my conviction that the only way we will avoid the worst health and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic is for the governors to take the lead and implement a Health Identity Card that will get those with earned immunity back to participating in normal commerce and work in a safe way. This is an incredibly important concept that literally could break the free fall happening in the American economy and boost us back up before a full Depression is upon us. As I write this, the US has lost 16.6 million jobs in the last 3 weeks. You can readily grasp the severity of the situation. And, while ending the epidemic has to be our highest priority, we simply do not have time to waste. The Economist, in the April 2nd edition, embraces something like what we are promoting without knowing what it would look like. This Memo answers that question.
I cannot stress enough how important it is for each State, and other foreign nations, to adopt a proposal of this type while there is still time. I’m familiar with every word printed on this subject in the English language and can tell you that there is not one concern that has been raised about how something like what we are proposing would work for which we do not have a specific answer ready to go. In the interests of brevity we decided to save additional explanations until questions are asked—but we are fully loaded with the answers and can find no flaw in what we’re suggesting, which is possibly the only way out of full economic collapse.
